Duck River tags into Kensie

Friday, November 23, 2012

At the New York Market - Duck River has interpreted the Kensie elegant whimsy into a line of home textiles translated from the brand's apparel pieces for young women.

The line was announced during the spring market and now occupies the front bedding space in Duck River's showroom at 295 Fifth Avenue.

"Kensie's designs are so prolific," said Joel Bren, Duck River's head of marketing. "It's bold, colorful and fashion-forward."

Targeting the department store and specialty store channels, Kensie is available in duvet covers as well as comforters.

Elsewhere in bedding, the company has redesigned its set packaging with larger inserts for the front panel and additional inserts on all other sides. The inserts are written in English, Spanish and French.

Duck River is also celebrating its recent move into a new corporate office and automated warehouse in Edison, N.J.

This market, it's also blowing out its fashion dec pillow offerings with twin-packs and three-packs and introducing memory foam bath mats as well as clearer PVC shower curtains.

In window, a core category, cotton and cotton blends are back after a price-mandated shift to poly in earlier seasons.

"We're doing much, much more in energy-saving curtains - and not just for the winter," said Bren. "Look at that hot spell we had during the summer."

Duck River brings Kensie into home

Duck River brings Kensie into home

Friday, March 02, 2012

Kensie, the hip clothing brand for young women, is making its first foray into home through a licensing arrangement with Duck River Textile, which will preview the design concepts during New York Home Fashions Market in its showroom at 295 Fifth Ave.

The collection will encompass bedding, dec pillows, bath accessories, bath rugs and shower curtains. It is expected to launch at retail this fall.

Packaging is an area the company has been emphasizing. Its open packaging of window panels attached to hangers is helping to propel its curtain business. Duck River's comforter set business is booming as well. The company recently expanded into the decorative pillow category with a focus on surface interest and merchandising in sets.

To accommodate its broadening business, Duck River will soon relocate to a larger headquarters space in Edison, N.J. Last August, it opened a warehouse in China, and it recently expanded its quality-control department there. In addition, it has entered several joint venture partnerships with offshore factories.

Duck River, which originally concentrated on the mass and off-price channels, is now selling into every segment of retail, he said.

New introductions include a machine-washable, energy-saving black out curtain. "We're doing three in one: fashion/function/comfort," said Bren. Going forward, the company is developing a curtain range that can be located by remote control.
In addition, the company is launching a new division offering dec pillows this week. Offerings include transitional fabrics and styles, said Bren.

Duck River has beefed up its support, design and product development staff to support expanded business. It now sells and distributes in Mexico and Canada.

Duck River in Expansion Mode

Monday, July 19, 2010

Secaucus NJ - Duck River Textiles is in expansion mode in nearly every aspect of its business.

The multi-category home textiles manufacturer is working on new packaging, a new logo, and a new entry-level price point for comforters and relocated to a new New York showroom at 295 Fifth Ave. that is six times larger than it previous showroom there. It’s also being outfitted with new eco-friendly lighting

"You name it, it’s being worked on", said Joel Bren, Executive VP for Marketing and Sales, who joined the company two months ago.
The 15 year-old, family owned company is run by four brothers: Oury, Eili, Raymond, and Joseph. With Vertical manufacturing in China and a 15-person office in China, Duck River serves the volume market in the US (as well as small accounts here) and the European Market.
The 10,000 square-foot New York showroom amplifies the product range: window, bedding, bath rugs, bath accessories, shower curtains and kitchen textiles.
The company is also working on developing a brand for teens and another for adults as well as its own brand. As part of that effort Duck River has been conducting focus groups.
“Price point is still the key,” said Bren. “People are shopping differently.”
Duck River is also making a big environmental push, weaving recycled plastics into polyester for cloth or packaging or using recycled denim in place of some cardboard.
“We are making a very, very concerted effort to give back to the planet earth” said Bren
